Wike Imposes 24-Hours Curfew Port Harcourt And Obio-Akpo

Rivers especially, the capital city comprising Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpo local government areas boiled on Wednesday with violence caused by hoodlums who hijacked the #ENDSARS protests.

But Governor Nyesom Wike immediately imposed a 24-hour curfew in the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area to avoid the escalation of the violence.

Wike, in a statewide broadcast, extended the curfew to Mile 1, Mile 2, Emenike, Ikoku and Iloaubuchi areas of Port Harcourt Local Government council as well as Oil Mill area of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the State.

The Governor, in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, explained that the decision to impose the curfew was taken after a State Security Council meeting which held at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Prior to the curfew, hoodlums, who were armed with guns, cudgels and other weapons attacked and burnt the Afam Divisional Police Office and Police Area Command in Oyigbo Local Government Area (LGA).

The attackers reportedly killed three policemen in a bizarre manner cutting off the hand of one of the police operatives that attempted to shoot at them.

Sources said the attackers, who stormed the police station on Wednesday eve at about 10pm hacked the police Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) driver to death, burnt the second victim alive and stoned to death the third policeman.

Sources said the hoodlums also torched an Appeal Court complex located in Oyigbo.

The miscreants took control of Elelenwo, Oil Mill, Ikoku and Mile 1 causing apprehension among residents, who ran to different directions for safety.

It was learnt three of the hoodlums died while attempting to burn the Mile 1 Police Division in Diobu area of Port Harcourt as the policemen resisting them and arrested others.
