Infrastructure : Ebonyi State Gov. Dave Umahi, Pledges To Support Private Schools


The Ebonyi State Government has pledged its readiness to support private primary and secondary schools from the 13 council areas of the state. The Governor, Engr. David Umahi made the disclosure during 17th edition of Inter House Sports of the Hope High British School, Abakaliki Ebonyi State.
He said it will be done within the shortest time, adding that it will enhance capacity building which private schools are known for. 
The governor said private schools deserve support and encouragement from the government because of complementary roles in  capacity building and development as character moulders.
“We must as government begin to encourage private schools. I will table this before the Executive Council so that in our next Universal Basic Education Board, UBEB programs, we will begin to look at private schools, the best ones to encourage in terms of infrastructure and same to secondary schools.
“So we will be looking at 26 infrastructure cut across the local government areas in the state.
“I am pretty sure this institution (Hope High British School) will benefit. I am so excited with the performances of these houses even the parents and teachers that participated”.
While attributing the the future of the youths to leadership, Umahi said there’s an urgent need to provide the needed leadership examples to forestall exhibition of ugly characters.
Hear him: “The future of these children is our task as leaders. Sometimes, we leaders don’t know why God has brought us to lead. We must have to prepare the future generations for the peace of all of us.
“If those who ran this race had done their job, I am sure today we will not have kidnappers, we will not have Boko Haram, but most of us leaders believes calling to lead is another way of making money and an easy of life”.
Earlier in their address of welcome, the proprietress, Her Excellency Mrs Eunice Ukamaka Egwu underscored the need of the exercise to include “increase in self esteem and mental alertness made school sports and games necessary for every child”.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of prizes to the first, second and third runners up of the event.
